Movies & shows watched this weekend

Malcolm X a Spike Lee joint. I watched this Friday in The Wake and Think discord server. A beautifully acted and shot film that I loved so much.

One of Them Days is just absolutely hilarious. I have seen it about 6 times now. It’s a comfort movie like Friday or Soul Plane.

I started the anime Solo Leveling. It has a pretty traditional arc but the animation and story kept me interested.

Social media

On Twitter there was a cornbread-off and everyone was showing off their cornbread on the TL. It brought me pure joy.

Marquis G. Queen wrote a Substack on fake allies among corporate America when it comes to Juneteenth.

Cherise breaking down the state of hip hop, new music and culture always brightens my weekends.

Mary Jane by Rick James has brought happiness when it played in the car. I really love the song it just puts a smile on my face.

TPAB on vinyl sounds so good. A funk rap album that brightens my souls. Hearing it on vinyl was a major source of joy.

I am not going to miss a chance to plug Samara Cyn. This EP was nice and relaxing. She has a voice that you can vibe to when you’re down.

I am working on a more serious piece, but I didn’t have it in me to work on it tonight. The news on Iran bummed me out. So, I decided to reflect on things that sparked joy this weekend.
